Weekend update

(Hey, this would be a good segment title for Saturday Night Live…)

Saturday:

  • As expected, we didn’t make it to the Kraft movie deal on Saturday morning. No big loss.
  • Mid-morning, Hannah and I went to her basketball tournament in Rio. The Marshall Youth Club 8th grade girls team is much improved over last year, but so are the other teams. Unfortunately, we got swept on the day, going 0-3.

    • By the way, it began snowing while we were there.
  • Got back home just ahead of Brian and Alex who were here for the UW men’s hockey game. Had to pause for a moment to shovel my way into the garage.
  • Braved the snow/rain/sleet and headed into Madison for the game. Surprise, we had our choice of tables at the Main Depot prior to the game.
  • It was worth the trip; Wisconsin comes back to win 4-3! The weekend sweep over St. Cloud State is complete (and much needed).
  • Tough trip home braving the weather. Best sight was a student digging out his car with…(wait for it)…an ice scraper! He was in the street using an ice scraper as a shovel trying to dig out his car. Too funny. Hey buddy: – when you dig yourself out, go buy a shovel.
  • Couldn’t get the car up the driveway and into the garage, so it sat in the driveway overnight. Ugh. Roads should be good to go for Sunday.

Sunday:

  • Ummm, the roads looked just like they did the night before. Where’s my taxpayer-funded plow?
  • Big thanks to Brian for helping me move about 5 tons of wet snow off my driveway. Still no plow.
  • No word from Hannah’s Midwest Juniors volleyball club, so she and Monica head off to practice.
  • Oh, there’s my plow guy at about 9:45 a.m. An extra thousand pounds of snow back on my driveway. Thanks, dude.
  • Brian rams through the blockade and heads home.
  • I clear the end of the driveway and Clare and I head to church. Late. I’m supposed to be ushering. Great. Finish up preparing the budget hand-outs, get it approved at the Voter’s meeting, head back home.
  • Pack a few things for a couple days in Chicago (me only), then we all head to the state gymnastics meet in Wisconsin Dells – Chula Vista resort.
  • Where is this place? Not exactly right on the strip, but we finally find it and head inside the inflatable structure. Weird-looking, to say the least. Air keeps it inflated and your ears pop as you go in and out through the revolving doors.

  • Short version of Clare’s results are that she scored well, but not as well as she had hoped. She placed 8th on beam, 11th on bars, and 12th in the all-around. They awarded medals out 11 places in all events, so she just missed earning an all-around medal. Considering many girls make it to state and come home with no medals, we’re very proud of her performance. On to Level 6 for next year!
