We’re getting close, folks. Only 1 short month before my time at the only real company I’ve worked for during my adult life comes to an end.
When I stop to think about watching my job move to Chicago, it still seems hard to believe. It’s like it is not really happening. It will probably take a few weeks of being unemployed before it really sinks in. I’m transitioning my work to others, documenting and cleaning up procedures that I’m working on, and reaching out and trying to grow my professional network at the same time.
Regarding the job search process, I am more and more convinced that blindly filling out an application and submitting a resume rarely lands in a job offer. You’re a name on the top of piece of paper. Growing and cultivating a real professional network is key. Luckily, there are lots of formerĀ OM folks in the Madison area working at companies that might be interested in hiring someone like me. I will be reaching out and trying to connect with many I have come to know over the years.
Those connections, combined with the outplacement services offered should (hopefully) yield gainful employment for yours truly in the coming months. More to come.
