Back from up north

We’re back, we’re safe, and we had a great time in the greater Hayward area last week. I’m still going through the pictures and videos – those will be posted over the next week or so – but I wanted to get something up early.

One of the most exciting events during our vacation happened on the ride home. About 150 north of home (according to the navigation device), we heard a loud noise from the back and then a constant rumbling. One glance to the side mirror confirmed that a tire blew on the boat trailer.

Swell.
Luckily it was sunny out, the weather was great, and we weren’t in a hurry to get anywhere.

After finally locating the jack on the Escape, I awkwardly began raising the trailer. Right on cue, a friendly county sheriff stopped by and was kind enough to turn on his lights to slow down traffic to the posted speed limit. Naturally, the lug nut wrench for the vehicle was too big for the trailer lug nuts. Officer friendly offered to retrieve his multi-sized wrench from his truck back at the office and was there and back in 5 minutes. Worked perfectly. Yes, I have one at home. Yes, I’ll bring it next time.

Thirty minutes later we were back on the road. In the grand scheme of things, this was a fairly minor inconvenience.

Here is a picture of the carnage.
