Final volleyball tournament (this year)

Just when we thought Hannah’s club season was done, the Midwest Juniors 14s Black traveling team asked her to fill in. Some girls had to drop out for the extended season, and Hannah was happy to fill in.

The only tournament that fit her schedule was last weekend in Wisconsin Dells at the Chula Vista bubble complex. (Of course it has some official name, but it’s basically a big, white bubble on the Chula Vista resort grounds.) Luckily, the Wisconsin state gymnastics meet was held here last fall so we knew where to go. It is at least a little amazing that this facility can transform from 2 or 3 full gymnastics rotations to 16 courts of indoor volleyball.

The first day featured two rounds of pool play. Beginning at 7:45 am, the girls played some tough competition and ended up 0-3. The second round of pool play in the evening left them just under .500.

On to the playoffs. The next day.

Luckily, the playoffs didn’t start until the afternoon and they found themselves in the Copper bracket. You have your gold, your silver, your bronze, your copper, and your bottom unnamed bracket. Theoretically, this aligns the teams according to skill level. Seems to work.

There were four teams in the Copper bracket. The girls first match was against a very sound 13s team. It took 3 games, but the Midwest girls prevailed. The Copper championship pitted us against a team that had beat us in the second round pool. Congratulations to our girls for holding on and winning the rematch in 3 games. Great competition and a first-ever bracket victory.
Well done!

Here’s a video compilation of Hannah (#1, blue socks) on the court throughout the two days:
