In the land of the gecko

(I’ll admit it – I had to look up the spelling…)

2008-03-23 009 In short, we had a great time in Fort Myers. We got into town the Saturday before Easter, rented the exact same Sonata that I drive on a regular basis, and found the ‘rents place easily. During the week the weather was nearly perfect, the beach was fantastic, the sunsets were memorable, and I didn’t embarrass myself on the golf course. Some random pics from our time in Cross Creek can be found here.

2008-03-25 049 As far as attractions go, we first hit Manatee world. Since the manatees frequent the warm water of the power plant during the winter months, they were long gone when we stopped by in late March. We did, however, see some kind of ray swimming in the river near the surface of the water. Pics from Manatee world can be found here.

2008-03-25 016 The Edison-Ford estate was next on the tour. It’s right in town and is home to the second-largest banyan tree in the world. Who knew? We opted for the self-guided tour so we could lounge around the grounds at our own pace. Complete with the funny audio thingies, we fit right in with the other tourists. It was great to learn how Edison and Ford and Firestone were pals and all worked to help each other and develop new technologies. More pics here.

2008-03-25 018 Having never been over the big bridge to Sanibel/Captiva, we headed over yonder one evening to see a sunset. We just kept driving until we couldn’t any longer and looked west. With nothing obstructing our view, we witnessed a beautiful sunset from the beach. Monica liked the fact that everyone feels obligated to applaud their approval of God’s show. A few more pics here.

Among other time-fillers, we also hit Fort Myers beach a couple of times, sat around the pool during other times, and (for me) got in a little golfing.

Awesome seafood on Dad’s birthday.
